Turn off image compression in your AOL web browser to see background images as they actually appear on a web page. As an alternative, download Microsoft's Internet Explorer or Netscape's Navigator. You can use either of them with AOL running, they're both free, and they both display the current HTML tags properly (for the most part).
The color code for a web page element is in the form RRGGBB where RR is the hexadecimal code for red, GG the green code and BB the blue. The value for each of the three colors runs from 00 to FF. Counting in hexadecimal from 00 to FF goes like this: 00, 01, 02, 03, 04, 05, 06, 07, 08, 09, 0A, 0B, 0C, 0D, 0E, 0F, 10, . . . , FF. This is analogous to counting in decimal from 00 to 99: 00, 01, 02, 03, 04, 05, 06, 07, 08, 09, 10, . . . , 99.
There are two ways to select colors: select a web page element from the drop-down list box and adjust the RGB (Red, Green, Blue) values individually or click the color bar, or enter values in the text boxes for each element. There is an advantage to using the RGB drop-down list boxes or the color bar: any of the possible combinations of RGB values will give a color within the famous 216-color Netscape palette. These 216 colors are the ones Netscape prefers when a user is in 256-color mode in windows. Press the View Changes button to see the changes you've made. Press your browser's back button to make quick adjustments to your entries or press the Modify button to update all of the text boxes and to see changes on the color selection page.
Enter the URL of a file to display as the background image in the text box labeled Background if you like. You can use a file from your computer using this format:
c:\web\images\gourami.gif on your PC translates to:
The <body> tag generated by your changes appears in a text box at the bottom of the page. To copy this tag, highlight the text and select Edit|Copy from your browser's menu. Press your browser's back button to make quick adjustments to your entries or press the Modify button to update all of the text boxes and to see changes on the color selection page.
